We had some discussion with [personal profile] datapredator in which we were looking for a name for a cluster of things, including (list somewhat modified from original discussion):

  • Banking
  • Medical care (as systematized)
  • Insurance
  • Contracts
  • Most government paperwork
  • Utility accounts

… and so on. The postfurries have been using “orthocosm” for a broader set of “Reol Wyrld Susaiyeti” matters, which I'm not sure I like for other reasons; either way, that's not specific enough (that we've observed).

After some thought, I settled on ecumechanical (adj) as a potential descriptor for this sort of thing, with ecumechanicosm (n) used for the/an overall world/sphere of such matters, and ecumechanics (n pl) being the processes/workings behind it or observation/study of such processes/workings. Synthesis from “ecumenical” (modified usage) + “mechanical”.

[personal profile] datapredator seems to like it, at least. ^..^ What do y'all think?
